    My Food Guide!

The new Canada Food Guide (CFG) that was just released this year is now available online in a very interactive way that I think is extremely useful.  The CFG website has a feature that allows you to personalize the CFG to the foods that you are accustomed to!  Before, the old CFG may have not seemed applicable, and thus unappealing to adhere to, to people who could not relate to the foods being recommended, especially if they were foods that they never ate.  Now, you can print out a one page CFG that lists your food group serving requirements, along with how much of your own favourite foods to eat!  This is one of those things that you need to try in order to appreciate.

I printed out my own CFG and am quite happy that the examples of food group servings it uses are foods that I actually eat very often.  Try it!  http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/food-guide-aliment/myguide-monguide/index_e.html

    just another day off?

So today is Good Friday.  Yesterday was Holy Thursday, today is Good Friday, and tomorrow is Holy Saturday, with the culminating Easter Sunday following.  So what's the big deal?  In a nutshell, Holy Week recalls the last days of Christ's human life.  And so, Good Friday, for example, recalls his death, and that's why we have this day off.  Unfortunately the entire meaning of this and pretty much every other holiday has been lost in today's society.  Just yesterday on Thursday I told a friend I had to be somewhere in the evening (mass) and she said "yeah I know it's like the biggest bar night since it's a long weekend!"  I couldn't help but laugh to myself, since that evening was the Holy Thursday mass.

So this morning was the Public Way of the Cross, in which people process with the cross, recalling the path to Christ's crucifixion.  This was the first time I did it, and it was interesting.  Think about it.  It's like, here we're going to nail you to this cross, but before we do so, let's give the ultimate insult and make you drag your own instrument of death first, while being mocked and humiliated.  I mean, WTF?  We even passed by this Romanian Orthodox church and the people there were just giving us very curious stares. hehe

The best part was getting my photo taken with Winnipeg's "pope", Archbishop James!  He really is a cool guy, even without the vestments.

So remember, there's a reason why you're getting a day off today.  Keep that in mind.
